Virtualization: Hot technology for 2008
VMware's final numbers for 2007 aren't out yet, but the company is on pace to hit US$1.5 billion. In August, EMC engineered an IPO for 10% of VMware. It turned out to be the most successful high-tech IPO since Google, with EMC raising nearly US$1 billion when 33 million shares were snapped up at an opening price of US$29. The stock continued to soar, exceeding US$50 a share on opening day, and soon thereafter cresting at more than US$125 a share. Today, VMware is selling at close to about US$80 a share, which gives the company a market capitalization of around US$30 billion. That's hot. And the virtualization market is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, IDC is predicting that worldwide spending on virtualization software and services is expected to jump from US$6.5 billion in 2006 to more than US$15 billion in 2011.
The 14 Juiciest Celeb Meltdowns
Pre-Meltdown: The wickedly talented son of underground filmmaker Robert Downey. Nominated for an Oscar in 1993 for Chaplin. Low Points: First sent to prison in 1997 on drug-related charges. Would visit the clink twice more in the next few years. Is alleged to have stumbled into a stranger's house one evening while intoxicated, falling asleep on their child's bed.Why it was fascinating: In spite of the trips to jail and rehab, Robert still managed to turn in sober-appearing performances on Ally McBeal during this period.Current Status: Now married and working steadily, RDJ's demons seem to be gone (or at least in hiding)Click HERE to return to the full list. .
Panic for Romo, Manning a game-time decision
Jessica's a no-go no-show, sending word through a publicist that she's instead working on a new album. Wait, Jessica Simpson makes albums? Hmph. Anyway, when it comes to play-time decisions, Simpson remains Romo's go-to gal, both having spent last weekend in Cabo San Lucas, which sounds like Mexico but could be a taco stand in Uniontown for all I know. Cowboys fans figured that they'd be better served if Romo were locked in a film room and routinely interrogated about Giants defensive tendencies. The fan base looked to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to be their dungeon master, but were acutely disappointed Thursday when Jones absolved the quarterback on all charges of conduct unbecoming a Super Bowl contender. "I have no qualms; I have no concerns about Tony's social life and about his relationships," Jones said.
